Inlay

Inlay / Onlay / Overlay-Insert

The term “inserts” varies according to the size of the coverage of the completed restoration on the tooth. The restorations we can prepare are the following: Inlay, onlay or overlay. These restorations are more durable than the simple fillings, however these require more time and financial investment, it’s a highly recommended procedure due it being a modern and precise alternative in terms of the durability and quality.

It is recomended to use inserts when:

  • The tooth material is too big in case of the supplementation
  • The size of the replaced amalgam filling overly weakened the tooth.
  • Biting increase is necessary?
  • In case after a root canal filling when there is a huge tooth material loss.

These replacements fillings are actually made by dental technicians. From the prepared cavity, a precision print will be taken, fixing the bite and after selecting the appropriate tooth colour we prepare the final restoration. In the meantime, the tooth is protected by the temporary filling material.

Benefits:

  • Completely perfect closure.
  • Closely evolved contact points
  • There is no shrinkage stress during the light-binding
  • It makes possible to form an anatomically accurate cusp-groove system.
  • No need to polish the tooth completely.

Material can be made by:

  • Gold: this is one of the oldest restorative diversity, does not induce any allergic reaction, easy to polish the tooth edges, antibacterial, very rarely subject to decay. The disadvantage is only the price and the yellow colour.
  • Gradia: this prosthesis made of entirely tooth-coloured plastic material. Perfectly close, good resistance to chewing forces. Aesthetically correct, but it may be discoloured and the surface can be shabby after a while.
  • Ceramics: The compression technique ceramic tooth restorations will perfectly satisfy the aesthetic demands. It’s a very precise and reliable technology. The smooth surface keeps less plaque, therefore secondary caries occur rarely.
